What to post... what to post... hmmm
Posted at 04:09 PM in ramblings/rantings/sentimiento

Hello everyone, I've come out from one of my successful hiatus (finally!). I haven't touched this blog for half-a-year. How are things here lately? I looks like everyone is dead... oh my ghulay...

Maintaining a blog is hard nowadays... well, for me of course. There are some people are comfortable doing it. They are gifted ones with the power of words and a bunch of ideas in my mind put together to form a great post, so great that everyone steals them and claims the stolen entries as theirs (okay, that's the sad part) but it doesn't stop most authors to make astounding entries.

With the proliferation of this so-called hype called Facebook, it made matters worse. I got to the point that I never respnded to game requests because I'm too busy with my FarmVille, Mafia Wars and Vampire Wars. But after the great flood, thanks to Typhoon Ondoy, I got back to my senses that I should not dependent to those games.

So... what should I post? Posting for a nerdy introduction sounds bland.

Maybe I'll save my words for later, when the inspiration strikes...

Good day.

Voting for a Difference
Posted at 01:26 AM

Election time is just around the corner. In a few months time, we'll be electing new public officials--people who are to protect our rights and advocate for the good of everyone. Unfortunately, I have to say that Philippine politics is somehow smudged with dirt. Many of the candidates have started airing their "public ads" and have been promoting themselves for the longest time now. The political ads make me very nauseated. They keep on promising the Filipinos a brighter future but history has proven that they do not fulfill these promises more often than not. Should they be like the Japanese, many of them would have committed harakiri after being suspected of dishonesty as a public official.

Campaigning has started early. Some of them who have the billions to spend on ads include Mar Roxas, Juan Ponce Enrile, Chiz Escudero and Manny Villar. Yuck! They all sound pathetically desperate to win the elections. Do they really mean what they say on tv or are they just doing these thing half-heartedly with the main intention of earning big amounts of money when they already have the power. Oh, I forgot to mention Erap Estrada who, after being granted pardon is now also in the race for the presidency. How greedy, pathetic and ungrateful he is. I don't know what will happen to us if he wins again. I bet foreign investors will run away from us having elected an "ex-convict" for president. Filipinos, you have to think, think and think again before we cast that vote next year.

My family re-registered at the Comelec last month. We had to do such because we failed to vote during the last elections. I'm still pondering on whether or not to use that one vote I'm entitled to next election because I'm doubtful if it would make a difference. Nakakapagod at nakakasawa nang makitang nangungurakot ang mga opisyal ng gobyerno. Again, the question of whether one vote would make sense lies in everyone of us. Maybe if majority of us would use our common sense during the elections, we would be able to elect a sensible leader that would re-create a new Philippine Republic.

Dencio's at Harbor Square
Posted at 10:48 PM in Food Galore

After having a short photo shoot at Rizal Park, we headed to Harbor Square to have dinner. It has been a long time since we had Nanay come along with us so we have to make the night special. We had dinner at Dencio's even if mom did not have the likings for the resto. We had sari-saring sinugba (grilled pork, tuna and squid), chopseuy (mixed vegetables), kare-kare (beef and tripe in peanut sauce) and lumpia (spring rolls). Patrick had 2 rounds of rice as always while Nanay had Dad's half of rice plus another one of her own. We had a hearty meal and good photos as well. Dad and I went to Starbucks to have coffee afterwards while Mom, Pat and Nanay strolled along the bay and took more photographs.

I'm planning to buy a new Starbuck's tumbler after the payday. I broke mine a couple of months ago and I'm currently using the smaller personalized tumbler. I need a bigger one to satisfy my coffee cravings.

Sometimes, I don't get myself anymore. Why I am the way I was, why I leave QC for La Union. I always used to say that in La Union, I am happy. Now I know what the difference is between happy - La Union and happy - Manila - Now.

In La Union, I feel free. There is no limit to the hours I can go out, the places I can go to. I am free; some people call my name and I have no idea who they are. San Fernando is too small a town - it's a place where you can win small literary contests in and have everybody know who you are the succeeding days. I felt free; on days when I am extremely depressed, I could just go to the nearby surf capital of the North, San Juan, buy myself a beer and watch the sunset.

I have tasted the good life, really, having been subjected to the basketball treatment (where I used to be the ball and I get tossed around from one place to another, by my dad, my mom, my grandmom and an aunt) and Quezon City, Diliman, Meycauayan and La Union were the home courts. I've tasted luxury, I know what it felt like to live extravagantly from at least two out of the three home courts. But it all boils down to this: simple things - that's what makes me happy.

And again, happy, being the overrated word that it is, is just that again. A word. A word that I rarely use, but I'm using it now.

But what are simple things? Eat street food. Hang out at your fave spot without spending too much except for the occasional booze and obligatory cigarettes. Eat tocilog at your neighborhood Pares house. Taking long walks along Session Road and/or Burnham Park, alone. Watching passers-by and being fascinated by them while sipping your morning coffee. Going online for hours on end. Go to the mall and window shop. Go to the metal gigs that you so love. Soundtrip for hours while staring at the ceiling. Taking photos of random things. Simple things that do not involve money (or too much of it). Simple, fun things. Things that you do that are never high maintenance; things that you do that most people would say 'yuck' to.

Going back, happiness in La Union is happiness when I am alone. Now, although I am technically alone, I don't feel so lonely anymore.

I love hangouts. I love isaw. I love lamb. I love beef longganisa. I love everything about the last two weeks. Heck, include September. There is nothing that I would change, save for probably the initial purpose as to how it came to be. But I find it nice, and more of a blessing in disguise.

Freeze moments. I hope it's possible. So I can put them in a li'l box and have an excuse to be nostalgic.
